A farmhouse is commonly known to be a house built for residential purposes in an agricultural setup. Farmhouses are known to be aesthetic and pragmatic, while also being furnished to cater to the basic necessities. When you think of a farmhouse, you picture a home that has an extensive front porch. Different Types Of Farmhouse Plans
Farmhouse plans differ from one part of the country to another. The three basic farmhouse styles are: the Canadian farmhouse, the German farmhouse and Norwegian farm house.
The Canadian Farmhouse Plans
These plans are those that draw their influence from the Victorian styles of the 19th century. Traditionally, these farmhouses were made by using clapboards while the latter versions comprised of bricks.
The German Farm House Styles
This category comprises of three main styles/ sub-categories of farmhouses.
The first style is called the Niedersachsenhaus or the Lower German House and it comprises of a large unit structure with a sweeping roof that is supported by many rows of internal posts. The gateway at the gable end leads to large hall. This type is designed in a way to house cattle stalls and barns on either side of the farmhouse.
The second one, or the Middle German House comprises of a single unit, which allows access from its sides, and has a roof supported by outside walls. The traditional style was a single unit, but it has changed over the years and the recent plans were expanded to two or more buildings, with two stories each located in the rectangular farmyard.
The third style in the German farmhouse plans is called the South German House, as it is commonly found in southern part of Germany. This plan comprises of two sub plans: the Black Forest farmstead and the Bavarian farmstead.
The Norwegian Farmhouse Plans
Apart from the Canadian and German farmhouse plans, the Norwegian farmhouses were also very popular for their use of timber or logs to build them. These farmhouses date back to 1200’s – 1900’s.
